In  1942 a women named Anita Roddick was born into an Italian immigrant family and was raised in Littlehampton, Sussex as the third out of four children. As she grew older she wanted to be different and daring. In the sixties Anita trained to be a teacher before travelling extensively on the Hippy trail where her interest in the different customs and rituals of people took hold of her and highlighted her interest in anthropology. Anita found out that a lot of women worried about their skin and Anita thought she could help. Anita was a very clever women and she soon was married to a man named Gordan. Gordan liked to help her with her work and soon she founded her own business called the Body Shop.

Anita's first Body Shop opened in Brighton in the year of 1976, where she sold packages of her cosmetic products in cheap plastic containers, and encouraged her customers to bring them back to be refilled. While she was in her shop, her husband was away travelling. By the following year, there were already several successful Body Shops which were now under franchise operations.

Working together, Anita and Gordan developed their unique philosophy for the Body Shop. They wanted to create profits with principles. Not only did they want to make profits, Anita and Gordan wanted to make an environmental change, for example, supporting Greenpeace or Save the Whales campaign, Save the Rainforest and the Friends of the Earth. She has also helped Aids Awareness. Anita did not like to see the world and it's animals getting damaged and hurt. She cares about the world we live in and she is very loving and very successful still today .
