Green Schools
St. Helens SNS has been working on the Travel Flag. Last year we encouraged all pupils to Walk on Wednesdays. These were called WOW days. Pupils were asked to try and travel to school by walking, car pooling or to park and stride. These days were a huge success and we will continue to do the same again this year.
European Mobility Week takes place on 16th-20th September. We will be asking pupils to take part in a School Travel Tracker for the week. We will ask pupils to travel smarter to school and help reduce the environmental impacts of taking less environmentally friendly transport.
Elections for the New Green Schools Committee are taking place in the next few days.
Also we wish to bring to your attention the following competition being run by RTE.
On Friday 15 November, RTÉ and the Houses of the Oireachtas will convene the country’s first ever Youth Assembly on Climate in Dáil Éireann. It will be a chance for young people to discuss what Ireland needs to do to tackle climate issues.

Ireland's young people have been leading the way on climate. Through strikes and demos they have helped make climate a national talking point. Now they are being given the opportunity to take that conversation to the heart of decision making.

In the context of the centenary of the first Dáil, 157 young people will be selected to take part in this one-day Youth Assembly to establish the next urgent steps for Ireland - and we are looking for your help to get them involved.

The number of young delegates will be the same as the current number of TDs in Dáil Éireann. Proceedings on the day will be chaired by Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghail.

Parents must make the applications on behalf of their children.

The Green Schools Motto is
New Rule! Walk to School!
